Everything keeps playing audio\video on close

Post by vsub »

I am not sure this is actually bug because it's normal this to happen but I don't really like it.
If "hide_on_close" is set to 1 and you play some file, when you close the window, the file will keep playing

Thanks for the bug report.

Please try Everything 1.4.1.920.

I've made Everything stop playing any previews when you hide/close the window.

Umm,what am I doing wrong.
This is what I did

1.Everything is not running as admin and the service is installed
2.I went to the settings and tried to disable the service but from there, clicking Ok,just blinks the button and nothing happens, the settings window is still open
3.I close the options window by using the X button
4.Then File=>Exit
5.Then I run Everything as admin and when I went to the options the enable services was half enabled and clicking on it to enable\disable it,prevent me from closing the window by using Ok
6.I close the window from the X button and then File=>Exit
7.I rename my currect everything version and copied the 920 into the folder
8.Now when I try to run it normally,it will take long time until I message appear asking me how I want to run Everything

Choosing Admin,runs everything normally
Choosing Service gives me an error after a while
Unable to create the Everything service: 1072

When I try to start the service from services.msc or delete it with process hacker,I get an error
"The specified service has been marked for deletion"

And I can't run everything if it's not as admin

Restarting(which was something I did not wanted to do)windows as expected fixed the problem.
And yes,the preview stops when I close the window

Btw,one question...does everything determines supported audio\video formats or something else because for example,I can play webm in WMP but the preview don't appear in everything

Uninstalling the service in Everything is not recommended.
I recommend stopping the service with the Service Manager (services.msc)
Now when I try to run it normally,it will take long time until I message appear asking me how I want to run Everything
The long delay is caused by Everything attempting to communicate with the Everything Service. It will timeout after 1 minute.

Unable to create the Everything service: 1072
There is a pending delete on the Everything Service.
Uninstalling the Everything service might require a restart to complete the uninstall.

This is why I recommend stopping the service and restarting it with the new Everything.exe instead of uninstalling it completely.

Everything uses the same settings as Windows Explorer.
These settings are found in your registry.

You might like to try the following on Windows 10:
  • Right click the Start menu and click Run.
  • Type in the following and press ENTER:
    regedit
  • navigate to:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.webm
  • Set the value for (Default) to:
    WMP11.AssocFile.AVI
