❌ Clear Search with an X
❌ Clear Search with an X
Thank you for a great product, “Everything”.
I would like to suggest a feature. (see attached proposed feature screenshot) That would be to add an “x” that—when clicked—would clear the search text box and reset everything for another search. Currently, if I have something in the text box, I have to go up and select all the existing search text and either hit backspace or the Del key before I start typing a new search term. Many modern applications today incorporate this “x” functionality. It makes it quick and easy to start a new search.
Thank you, again!
Re: ❌ Clear Search with an X
If I go up into the search box it will automatically higlight the current entry
and if I start typing it replaces the old content with my newly entered text.
So no need to delete anything before typing.

Re: ❌ Clear Search with an X
Often, I'll type some search text and nothing relevant appears in the results, so I'll want to change the search text. At that point, I have to select the whole line and either backspace, delete, or type over it. I just would like to see this be more in line with typical applications today (with the "X" to clear the line).
Re: ❌ Clear Search with an X
For now, you can press ALT+HOME to clear your search query.
(Or add another keyboard shortcut for View | Go To | Home (under Menu:Tools > Options > General > Keyboard )
And another suggestion:
When in the search bar, press CTRL+A (that will select all text) and start tyoping your new search query.
And yet another one (the last one, I promise ) :
Press the TAB key twice and type your new search.

Thanks. I currently do most of your suggestions.
I just wanted to get this on the product backlog.
Thanks, again!

Re: ❌ Clear Search with an X
Yes, I did understand that (that's why the "For now .."). But both @horst.epp and I have no influence on that (@void is the developer of Everything).
We can only make suggestions to make your life a little easier with the current Everything.
FWIW: I think it is a good suggestion, especially for "mouse-minded" people.
Re: ❌ Clear Search with an X
Or
Tools=>Options=>General=>UI=>Select search on mouse click
This way when you click on the search field(when the search filed is not active)it will select all text which will be replaced when you start typing
Or
Triple clicking also selects all

Re: ❌ Clear Search with an X
Well that's what I meant by "when the search filed is not active"
You can also enable the option below "Focus search on activate" and this along with the other option will auto select all and focus the search bar when you activate the everything window
I don't like that option because I sometimes accidentally delete by search query
Re: ❌ Clear Search with an X
huh, forgot about Alt-D
I even had Ctrl-L defined once, as those two are the defaults to focus the address bar and select the content in browsers as well as in File Explorer. But never used it.
Now I really promise ...
But all this aside: I am posting because I'm wondering what tool you used for that torn paper effect. I like it a lot!
I know ShareX (screenshot tool) uses something similar, but that doesn't look even half as good ..

Now I'm going to sit in some dark corner and shame myself for a (long!) time ..
That's what I use. For many years now ...
But you are absolutely right (of course): works here in Greenshot too.
Thanks for enlightening me, SoCalDude!
