I think Everything is good enough to replace the pre-built Windows Start Menu and Indexer.
Hit the "win" key to bring Everything up, type what I want to run, and then close the window when I run the shortcut.
Would be nice to have a Start Menu like UI option. Even better if we can retain the Start Menu but replace its indexer with Everything's engine instead. Is this possible?
Replace the Windows Start Menu and Indexer
Re: Replace the Windows Start Menu and Indexer
Replacing the Start Menu search with Everything is currently not supported.
I will consider an option to do this.
Thank you for your suggestion.

Re: Replace the Windows Start Menu and Indexer
No problem
I just don't see what so special about it(no offense to anyone who like it)
Clicking on a search bar(that takes space from the taskbar)to bring a window vs clicking on the tray icon(or the taskbar shortcut)to bring the everything window
Btw,everything have an option to close the window once you run something
Tools=>Options=>General=>Result=>Close window on execute

The Everything toolbar has a big benefit.vsub wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 9:47 am No problem

You can define by regular expressions which program should be started depending of the type of the result.
Its also much simpler to just type into the toolbar and get the results compared to first starting Everything GUI.
Here for example my rules:
Re: Replace the Windows Start Menu and Indexer
You click on a toolbar to start typing
You click on a tray icon or a shortcut to start typing(when everything automatically focus the search bar)
Re: Replace the Windows Start Menu and Indexer
I use the Everything GUI when I expect a lot of results.
I also have defined context entries in Everything for my file managers.
But if you look on my rules for the toolbar above you see thats currently not possible with Everything.
I use Everything since its very first version many years ago but the toolbar is a very good add-on.
Most of the time I use the Everything integration in Total Commander
Re: Replace the Windows Start Menu and Indexer
There are more launchers that use Everything to find files: Wox, Keypirinha, ueli, Fluent Search.
You can find a list here, including links to those launchers.
(Definitely take a look at Fluent Search; its development goes at a crazy speed lately)

Re: Replace the Windows Start Menu and Indexer
Hello,
In another thread I have posted how to make everything into a start menu replacement
It's actually using EverythingToolbar plus some basic tweaking
