Misidentification of some files purpose in the categories
Hey.
I using Everything from 2017 but there's one thing, which frustrating me and finally i decided to report it as a bug.
We have few default options to search specific files (Archives, sounds, video) etc.
There are few badly categorised file types, but first of all i want say about one which i remember now, if i find more will update the topic because i know that there's few.
When we select videos category we can find there an .amr files.
AMR was old format dedicated to record a voice notes, mainly used in phones from 00s, so it match more to the sound category. Why it's shown in the video files list?
The same thing appears when we select Photos. Here we can expect also .raw files, which can be used there, but not only. Raw format is used to audio, video etc. Raw mean unprocessed files of any type.
In the context of audio, RAW files can refer to uncompressed audio data.
RAW files in video work similarly to photography, containing uncompressed video data from the camera.
Also .m3u files displaying in the sound category. M3u and pls are playlists, and not contain any audio data.
BTW, I dreaming about new categorry called Others which will show all filetypes that are'nt included in the current. Every not categorised file types. I would often find this useful.
Thanks for reply.

THX, I will check it out.
Re: Misidentification of some files purpose in the categories
The list of file extensions per type (audio, video, ... ) is virtually endless.
There are several discussions about it on these forums (here for example).
The default filters in Everything contain the most common ones. You can add to/remove from them in any way you like (see @therube's post)
For your Others filter:
Create a new filter ( Menu => Search => Organize Filters, New button ):
(It does indeed look like the .AMR extension does not belong in the video filter)

And your Filter looks like the following?
What is your current search?
What is shown in the statusbar (next to "Others")?

Re: Misidentification of some files purpose in the categories
Everything 1.5 will make the following changes:
.amr is now treated as audio.
.raw is no longer used in any filter.
.raw can be anything.
Although, it it is typically an image.
.m3u is still audio
While m3u is really text/plain, Windows will treat it as audio/x-mpegurl
Everything will do the same.
A lot of users requested m3u to match audio files.
Everything 1.5 filters:
Audio:
Compressed:
Document:
Executable:
Picture:
Video:
These are by no means a complete list.
I am aiming to support common types...
A type that you can drop on your webbrowser and it will display correctly.

Re: Misidentification of some files purpose in the categories
You can also add s3m for an audio files list. It's another popular tracker format like xm mod etc. To executables if there's a ps1 maybe good option is also add bat and vbs? It's also Windows scripts format.
Here's my list of slightly less popular but still sometimes encountered audio formats.
.adt, .adts
.asx (Something like m3u pls, but for Windows media player)
.caf (Another apple format)
.eac3
.kar (Midi format for karaoke)
.mat
m3u8 (So also there's a place for encrypted m3u version)
.m4r (Iphone ringtones format which's technicaly normal m4a)
.oga (OGG used in Whatsapp, Telegram etc, also Linux system sounds using it)
.rm (Real media, here's only .ra)
.wav64 (Another type of wav format)
.xac (Extended audio)

Re: Misidentification of some files purpose in the categories
Greetings, all! Hope you are well!
@void What do you mean by this; what is your projected order of operations/ functionality that would involve dropping something in the web browser? trying to wrap my head around that.
I'm about to look, but might as well mention since i've already taken space. 2-for-1
Is there a thread in this forum where Users might add/update/append existing Filter listings? It's the O.C.D. (likely others here know what i mean), when we see those filters and think, "surly there's an extension missing! there must be!"
As a web dev'r, I encounter oftentimes "new" extensions that I want for the "Web" filter, e.g. ".yml" for the ever-popular containers/ Docker, .code-workspace, etc.
Rather than bother @void with it, perhaps...
users would appreciate something like
https://void-tools.slack.com/
realizing of course not Everyon is into everyhing such as Slack (discord, etc) and all the "newer" madness...
Re: Misidentification of some files purpose in the categories
@Void. Can you post the new, updated filters codes for those with portable setup? I still have the old filters. It's a hard to pick and insert the new added/removed extensions in all filters.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Misidentification of some files purpose in the categories
Only as a test.@void What do you mean by this; what is your projected order of operations/ functionality that would involve dropping something in the web browser? trying to wrap my head around that.
Dropping a file onto browser would be the same as downloading and viewing the file in your browser.
Common types are quite well defined, eg: txt, json, html, jpg, mp4 etc.
A web-browser can display these common file types.
Everything will know of all these common types.
Added information above to edit your filters. Is there a thread in this forum where Users might add/update/append existing Filter listings? It's the O.C.D. (likely others here know what i mean), when we see those filters and think, "surly there's an extension missing! there must be!"
Basics here:
https://www.voidtools.com/support/everything/searching/#filters
It's difficult to support all extensions. As a web dev'r, I encounter oftentimes "new" extensions that I want for the "Web" filter, e.g. ".yml" for the ever-popular containers/ Docker, .code-workspace, etc.
In this case it would be easier to just search for *.yml or add your own custom "web" filter.

Re: Misidentification of some files purpose in the categories
Hello there, Happy Money. Happy Monday! O M G. Freudian slip much?
So, here's this: ( https://www.convertcsv.com/csv-to-json.htm )
Based on my filters data, can you identify my problem in Everything 1.5 Content search?
I very much appreciate the value of the 'content:' query option. So useful.
Of course, I've somehow ruined mine, as evidenced in the results view.
Note there are three distinctly different "web" paths which should be included in the content search.
Have you a recommended starting point, or order of operations for debugging it?
Thank you!
Edit: I see what was causing the problem. I was expecting Evereything to index the network folders recursively (e.g. Linux on LAN). Once I specified the individual locations (vs a parent location), the content is now indexed as expected.
Thank you!
So, here's this:
