Question about everything db.

Post by klapauciuspdx »

As I understand it, the DB updates in real time. I use it all the time prior to upgrading my laptop, but here's where I am having a small bit of concern. How does this affect the performance of hybrid and ssd drives? Ive recently switched to running a hybrid drive ( Seagate Momentus XT )- conventional HDD with a larger (~4GB) SSD cache, in addition to the standard 32MB buffer used by a conventional HDD. The SSD portion of the drive is not directly accessible, but is used to cache commonly used files. Not sure if the everything DB would fall under that. My concern is that the real-time updating of the database might shorten the life of the SSD, due to the real time update. Anyone have any thoughts or experiences regarding this? If there is an issue with SSD's, are there changes that I can make that would minimize/reduce the number of write cycles?
